01 / Engineering Overview

Local Air Supply for Underground Metal Mine Workings

FK and FKD fans are used for localized forced ventilation in metal mines and other non-coal underground workings, particularly during development, drifting and single-heading excavation where fresh air must be delivered through ventilation ducting to the working face.

Selection depends strongly on the ventilation-duct diameter, total duct length, leakage, bends and required face airflow. FKD contra-rotating models are suited to operating points requiring more pressure and longer air-delivery distances.

02 / FK vs FKD

Select the Fan Configuration by System Resistance

FK
Single-Stage / Auxiliary
Suitable for conventional local ventilation duties where airflow, duct resistance and supply distance can be satisfied by a single-stage arrangement.
FKD
Contra-Rotating
Two impeller stages rotate in opposite directions to provide a higher-pressure operating range for longer ducts and higher system resistance.
FK / FKD are not the same product family as FB / FBD.
This page is positioned for metal and non-coal mine local ventilation. Coal-mine projects and explosion-protection requirements should be reviewed separately.

Reference data should be used for preliminary model screening. Final selection must consider actual duct resistance, leakage, altitude, air density and the required airflow at the working face.
04 / Duct Resistance & Air-Delivery Distance

Fan Pressure Must Match the Entire Ventilation Duct

Duct Diameter
Smaller ducts produce higher resistance at the same airflow.
Duct Length
Longer headings normally require more available fan pressure.
Leakage
Flexible duct joints and damaged sections can reduce airflow delivered to the face.
Bends & Transitions
Elbows, reducers and poor inlet conditions add additional resistance.

FK / FKD Mine Ventilation Fan Questions

What is the difference between FK and FKD?
FK covers conventional local ventilation configurations. FKD uses a contra-rotating two-stage arrangement and is generally selected when more pressure is required.
Are FK and FKD intended for coal mines?
This page is positioned for metal and other non-coal mine ventilation. Coal-mine and explosion-protection requirements should be reviewed separately.
What airflow range is available?
The combined reference range shown on this page is approximately 3,240 to 64,080 m³/h.
Can FKD be used for longer ventilation ducts?
FKD provides a higher-pressure contra-rotating configuration, but actual allowable duct length depends on diameter, leakage, bends and the airflow required at the working face.
What information is needed for fan selection?
Provide required face airflow, ventilation-duct diameter and length, system layout, mine conditions, voltage, frequency and installation requirements.
Can you replace an old JK or DJK fan?
Yes, replacement can be reviewed from the old model, nameplate, motor data, performance requirement and installation dimensions.
