Press-in and extractive ventilation describe the airflow arrangement in the mine or tunnel system. The appropriate method depends on contaminant control, duct layout, roadway geometry and project requirements.

Fresh air is delivered through ducting toward the heading or working face. Fan pressure must account for duct length, duct diameter, fittings, leakage and system resistance.
