Description

The Heavy Duty Mixed Flow Fan bridges the performance gap between traditional axial and centrifugal fans. By channeling air through a diagonal impeller path, this unit generates higher static pressure than a standard axial fan while maintaining a more compact footprint and higher volumetric capacity than a centrifugal blower. Built for continuous industrial duty, the assembly features a heavy-gauge welded steel housing, dynamically balanced impellers, and direct-drive or belt-driven configurations rated for demanding ventilation, exhaust, and process air applications.

Key Features

Diagonal Impeller Geometry: Aerodynamically optimized blade profiles combine axial entry with centrifugal discharge to maximize pressure development and reduce turbulence losses.
Rigid Structural Housing: Formed from heavy-gauge carbon steel or structural stainless steel, reinforced with external stiffeners to eliminate casing deflection under high static loads.
Precision Dynamic Balancing: Impellers are balanced to ISO 1940 Grade 2.5 or better, minimizing mechanical vibration and extending bearing service life.
Robust Shaft and Bearing Assembly: Oversized steel shafts paired with heavy-duty cast-iron pillow block bearings rated for a minimum L10 life of 50,000 hours under continuous operation.
Corrosion-Resistant Protective Coating: Standard units undergo grit-blasting to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2.5, followed by a multi-layer industrial epoxy or high-temperature enamel finish.

Construction & Working Principle

Working Principle
Air enters the fan axially along the drive shaft centerline. As the air passes through the diagonal-bladed impeller, kinetic energy is imparted by both the lift generated by the blades and the centrifugal force of the expanding flow path. The integrated stator vanes straighten the discharge air vector, converting rotational kinetic energy into static pressure before exhausting through the outlet duct.

Manufacturing & Quality Control
Cutting & Forming: CNC laser cutting and computer-controlled hydraulic press brakes maintain dimensional tolerances within ±0.2 mm for housing and blade components.
Welding Standards: Structural and pressure-retaining welds executed by certified welders in accordance with AWS D1.1 / ISO 3834 standards.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Critical impeller welds undergo routine dye penetrant (PT) or magnetic particle (MT) inspection.
Factory Acceptance Testing: Every completed fan undergoes a 2-hour run test on a dedicated test bench to measure vibration velocity, motor current draw, operational temperature, and acoustic output.

Applications

Tunnel & Underground Ventilation: Longitudinal and transverse ventilation systems requiring high pressure to overcome friction losses in long duct runs.
Industrial Process Exhaust: Corrosive or particulate-laden air extraction in chemical processing, metal finishing, and pulp and paper mills.
HVAC Air Handling Units: Centralized air distribution systems in large commercial complexes, airports, and industrial manufacturing plants.
Power Generation Facilities: Boiler room ventilation, turbine enclosure cooling, and flue gas auxiliary draft systems.

Explosion-Proof Configurations: ATEX or Class I, Division 1/2 compliant motors, spark-resistant non-ferrous bronze inlet cones, and grounding straps for hazardous explosive environments.
Sound Attenuation: Inlet/outlet silencers and acoustic insulation blankets to meet specific local noise criteria (down to 65 dBA at 1.5 meters).
Flow Control Accessories: Inlet guide vanes, motorized discharge dampers, flexible duct connectors, and vibration isolator spring mounts.

FAQ

Q: How do I select the correct static pressure rating for my duct system?

A: Calculate total pressure losses by combining friction losses through straight ductwork, dynamic losses across fittings, elbows, and dampers, and pressure drops across filtration or heat recovery media. Select a fan whose operating point on the aerodynamic fan curve falls within the stable region, typically 60% to 80% of peak static pressure.

Q: What is the difference between direct drive and belt-driven mixed flow fans?

A: Direct-drive configurations couple the impeller directly to the motor shaft, resulting in higher mechanical efficiency, zero belt maintenance, and a smaller footprint. Belt-driven configurations utilize sheaves and V-belts, allowing speed adjustments on-site to match changing system resistance or airflow requirements.

Q: Can these fans be installed outdoors without a weather cover?

A: Yes, provided the unit is specified with an outdoor-rated motor (IP55/IP56 minimum), weatherproof terminal boxes, a weather hood over the exhaust discharge, and a protective coating system rated for external atmospheric exposure (ISO 12944 C3 or C4 environments).

Q: What standard warranties and compliance documentation are provided with shipment?

A: Units include a 12-month standard operating warranty against manufacturing defects, complete with factory test reports, material mill test certificates (MTRs), dynamic balancing calibration sheets, and comprehensive installation, operation, and maintenance (IOM) manuals.

Q: What measures are taken to control vibration during high-speed operation?

A: Impellers undergo multi-plane dynamic balancing on computerized balancing rigs. Additionally, heavy structural mounting bases minimize resonant frequencies, and matching elastomeric or spring vibration isolators are supplied to isolate dynamic loads from the building structure.

Q: What data is required to generate a custom performance curve and quotation?

A: Provide the required volumetric flow rate (CFM or m3/h), total static pressure (Pa or in.wg), operating air density (temperature and elevation), electrical supply parameters, and any specific environmental constraints (corrosion, high temperature, or explosion-proof requirements).
