The Simple Rule
Do not confirm only by
Fan Model or Product Photo
Confirm together
Viewing Side + Rotation + Outlet Angle + Duct Layout

Reference rule: This guide describes rotation from the motor side. The 0° and 180° positions are horizontal outlet positions, but the actual physical side must be confirmed from the rotation-specific drawing.
Before Production

Confirm Four Items Together

Rotation and outlet angle should never be treated as isolated labels. The viewing reference, discharge position and real installation layout must be checked at the same time.

01
Viewing Side
Define the reference side first. QIYUE FAN drawings normally judge rotation from the motor side.
02
Rotation
Confirm clockwise or counterclockwise from the defined viewing side, not from an unclear photo.
03
Outlet Angle
Confirm the discharge position together with the left-hand or right-hand rotation drawing.
04
Site Layout
Check duct direction, foundation, motor position, belt cover and maintenance access.
Installation Basics

Why Rotation Direction and Outlet Angle Matter

Industrial centrifugal fans connect to ducts, dust collectors, boilers, scrubbers, furnaces and exhaust stacks. The casing outlet must face the correct direction so the fan matches the actual process layout.

01
Duct Connection
The discharge outlet must align with the downstream duct direction.
02
Motor Position
Motor, belt cover and base layout must fit the available service space.
03
Foundation Design
Anchor holes and base orientation should match the final fan arrangement.
Rotation Direction

What Is Centrifugal Fan Rotation Direction?

In this guide, rotation is judged from the motor side. Clockwise rotation from the motor side is commonly called right-hand rotation, while counterclockwise rotation is commonly called left-hand rotation.

Right-Hand Rotation
CW from Motor Side
When viewed from the motor side, the impeller appears to rotate clockwise. In common Chinese centrifugal fan practice, this is described as right-hand rotation.
Left-Hand Rotation
CCW from Motor Side
When viewed from the motor side, the impeller appears to rotate counterclockwise. In common Chinese centrifugal fan practice, this is described as left-hand rotation.
Important: "Clockwise," "counterclockwise," "left-hand" and "right-hand" are meaningful only when the viewing side is defined. Never use an unclear product photo as the final production reference.
How to Determine Fan Rotation

How to Determine Centrifugal Fan Rotation Direction

Use the same reference side for every check. The safest method is to compare the motor-side view, impeller rotation, discharge position and approved general arrangement drawing.

01
Stand at Motor Side
State the reference side in the drawing or RFQ.
02
Identify CW or CCW
Record clockwise or counterclockwise from that side.
03
Check Discharge
Match the outlet angle with the rotation-specific layout.
04
Confirm Drawing
Approve shaft, motor, base, duct and service clearances together.
If a customer drawing uses another standard or viewing convention, keep the original standard and mark the reference direction clearly instead of converting it by assumption.
Outlet Angle

Common Centrifugal Fan Outlet Angles and Discharge Positions

In common Chinese centrifugal fan practice, 90° normally indicates upward discharge and 270° downward discharge. The 0° and 180° positions are horizontal, but the actual physical side must be confirmed with the fan rotation and drawing.

Outlet Angle Common Meaning Important Confirmation
Horizontal discharge position Physical side depends on left-hand or right-hand rotation.
45° / 135° / 225° Inclined discharge positions Confirm with the rotation-specific drawing, not text alone.
90° Normally upward discharge Check vertical ducting, exhaust stack and service clearance.
180° Horizontal position opposite to 0° Confirm actual side from the rotation-specific drawing.
270° Normally downward discharge Check foundation, drainage, duct clearance and maintenance access.
Angle naming conventions can vary between manufacturers and standards. Final rotation direction, discharge position and outlet angle should always be confirmed on the approved production drawing.
Angle Examples

Examples: 0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, 180°, 225° and 270°

The same fan model may be produced with different outlet angles. Do not judge the physical left or right side from the angle number alone.

135°

Common Mistakes

Common Mistakes Before Ordering

Only Confirming Model
The same fan model may use different rotation and outlet arrangements.
Unclear Viewing Direction
Left-hand and right-hand rotation must use the same defined reference side.
Ignoring Service Space
Motor, bearing, belt cover and access doors need sufficient clearance.
Not Checking Duct Layout
Outlet angle should match the real downstream duct direction at site.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ About Fan Rotation Direction and Outlet Angle

Is centrifugal fan rotation direction important?

Yes. The rotation must match the impeller, casing and specified discharge arrangement. An incorrect direction can prevent the fan from operating as designed.

How do I confirm clockwise or counterclockwise rotation?

Define the motor-side view first. From that side, record clockwise or counterclockwise rotation and mark it on the approved production drawing.

What is the difference between left-hand and right-hand rotation?

For this guide, clockwise from the motor side is commonly called right-hand rotation, while counterclockwise from the motor side is commonly called left-hand rotation.

Can the outlet angle be customized?

Many centrifugal fan models can use different outlet angles, but the available angles depend on model, rotation, drive arrangement and casing structure.

Can I confirm the outlet angle after production?

It is not recommended. The outlet angle should be confirmed before production because a later change may require casing, base or duct modifications.

What should I send if I am not sure?

Send the fan model or duty point, motor-side reference, required rotation, outlet position, duct layout, motor position and any existing drawing.
